Dolores H. Longstreet
Dolores H. Longstreet, age 93 of Hastings, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2021.
She was born on October 28, 1927 to parents, Henry Hanford and Lulubelle (Foss) in Lake City. Her father married Dorothy (Foss) Hanford after the death of his first wife.
She was preceded in death by her parents and stepmother; her husband, Peter Longstreet and four of her nine siblingsm Julia Lundquist, Alice Craven, Robert Hanford and Henry Hanford. Also; sister-in-law, Grace Hanford and brothers-in-law, Uno Lundquist and Richard Secord.
Dolores is survived by five siblings, Maurice Hanford, Marie Secord, Louise Hard, Donna Davis and Joseph (Kris) Hanford. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Bonnie Hanford, Shirley Hanford, and brother-in-law, Dic Craven.
Surviving as well, many nieces and nephews who were loved as if they were her own children.
She will be remembered for her travels to other countries as well as her service in the Peace Corps and her volunteer mission work in Paraguay, South America. In the mid 1960s Dolores back-packed through Europe with two friends traveling by truck, bus, train and even camel. Trips included Poland, Greece, Afghanistan and Costa Rica. With family members, she traveled to most states including Alaska and Hawaii. Her spirit of adventure will be greatly missed.
In 1990 Dolores retired after working for over 30 years for Kent County in Grand Rapids. She began as an entry-level clerk at the Register of Deeds, downtown and ended as the chief accountant of Kent County Health Department on Fuller Ave. Her work ethic was beyond reproach.
As a selfless survivor, Dolores was the most generous person her family members have ever met. It would be hard to find a sibling or niece/nephew who has not been included on a vacation with her. She gave freely of her time and talents, often making hand crocheted or knitted sweaters, slippers or towels. Several generations of kids received birthday cards, often with a crisp new dollar bill included.
Rest in God’s peace, Dolores! We will miss you and always remember the sacrifices that you made to enrich the life of each of us.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Daniels Funeral Home, Nashville.
