Dennis Leroy Smith, age 65 of Delton, passed away unexpectedly on January 9, 2021. Dennis was born on February 6, 1955 in Battle Creek. He was preceded in death by parents, Patty and Merle Payne, Frances Smith; sister, Deborah Winn and survived by one parent Sue Smith. Dennis was a faithful employee of Viking Corporation for over 43 years retiring in 2020. He was a union member of USW #5965. Known as a cool-headed guy that could fix anything and everything, Dennis was always willing to lend a helping hand to others. In his free time, he enjoyed motorcycle road trips with his son, scuba diving in his younger years, being a jokester with family and friends, and loving his cats. Most important to Dennis was his family, whom he loved and cared for deeply. Dennis will be sorely missed by his children, Tyler (Chelsea) Smith, Alfredo (Michelle) Torres, Samuel (Misty) Torres, Felicia (William) Pardee, Casandra (Jeffrey) Sebright; longtime best friend and mother to his children, Sheila Torres; 16 grandchildren; siblings, Donnie (Rita) Smith, Denise Daniels, Deanna (Ron) Daniels, Doug Smith, Dan Payne, Darlene (Jim) Cowham, Mandy Payne, Kay Payne, Justin Payne, Albert Payne, Kathy (Dan) Eslick, Sharron Smith, Terry Smith, Bradley (Janet) Smith, David (Gabi) Smith; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and caring friends.
