Imogene Stager


Imogene “Jean” Stager, age 86, of Middleville, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 15, 2020 at Carveth Village in Middleville. Jean was born on January 2, 1934 in Grand Rapids to Henry and Marguerite (VanderVelde) Westerhuis. On August 29, 1958, Jean married Richard “Dick” Stager and moved to Middleville. She worked at the courthouse in Barry County and as a teller at Old Kent Bank in Grand Rapids. Jean was well-loved and a favorite among her nieces and nephews. She was involved in local politics and worked as the secretary of the Republican party in Barry County and served on many election boards and was appointed to the jury board as well. She enjoyed volunteering at Charlton Park in Hastings and being a part of the hospital auxiliary in Sebring, Florida where she and Dick wintered. Jean raised two wonderful daughters and had three grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. She will always be remembered for her love of ice cream and shoes. Jean is survived by her husband of 62 years, Dick; daughters, Kim (Randy) Pommier, Sandi Wake; three grandchildren, Bruce (Kristy) Pommier, Kelli (Jason) Henry, and Nick Wake; six great-grandchildren; siblings, John (Kay) Westerhuis, Jim (Mary) Westerhuis, Howard (Patsy) Swart, Warren (Debbie) Westerhuis; and brother-in-law, Ron Rozema. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Lynne Rozema. Friends and relatives met with the family on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2020 at the Beeler-Gores Funeral Home in Middleville.
