Kathleen Lucille Rogers
Kathleen Lucille Rogers, age 87, of Dowling passed away Friday, Nov. 6, 2020 at Glenn Arbor Hospice, in Battle Creek.
Kathleen was born in Homer, on August 6, 1933, the daughter of the late Laurel and Eunice (Fast) Poling. She was raised in the Battle Creek and attended local schools graduating from Hastings High School.
She was the wife of Joel Rogers Sr. Joel and Kathleen met on a blind date while he was serving in the United States Air Force. On June 18, 1954 the couple was married in Angola, IN. Joel and Kathleen have celebrated over 66 years of marriage.
The couple began their lives together in the Battle Creek area, later moving West. During that time, they purchased a chicken farm that Kathleen maintained and operated. After 10 years in California the family returned to Michigan during Christmas break and they never returned. Joel and Kathleen purchased a farm in Dowling where they raised their six children and have enjoyed the country lifestyle for over 53 years.
Caring for her family was always Kathleen’s first priority and she took great pride in the attention given to their care. She was able to successfully balance a professional and family life faithfully working at Hastings Manufacturing for over 25 years before retiring in 1995.
During her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting, doing word search puzzles and playing games on the computer. While her family was growing, every summer they packed up the RV and travelled the United States camping and sightseeing together. She and her husband Joel have visited 48 of the 50 states in the country.
It was Kathleen’s devotion to her faith that made her such a faithful mother, wife and follower of Christ. Along with her husband and entire family they helped construct the original Nashville Assembly of God Church, from the ground up.
Kathleen is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years, Joel; her three daughters, Diana (Gary) Gillean Sandy Gladney, Bonnie (John Hazel) Vallance; sons, Joel H. Rogers Jr., Jim Rogers; four sisters, Marlene Riggle, Barb (Bill Nichols) Simpkins, Karen (Dennis) Ridge, Patricia (Jeff) Slonecker; two brothers, LaVerne (Linda) Polling, and Ronald (Gail) Poling; 14 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren with one on the way.
