Montie K. Morris Sr.


Montie K. Morris Sr., age 79, of Vermontville passed away Sunday, Nov. 8, 2020 at Sparrow Hospital, in Lansing. Montie was born in Salem, OR, on June 3, 1941, the son of the late Montie J. and Dorothy (Andrews) Morris. He was raised in the Oregon and attended local schools. During his high school years, Montie enjoyed playing the clarinet in the band and serving as the official photographer for the sports teams. After completing his education, Montie joined the United States Air Force on December 15, 1960. Montie served as a mechanic the 4627th Support Squadron which was responsible for maintaining essential for transporting equipment and personnel. Montie was honorable discharge on July 20, 1964. Montie was married to Percilla (Winchell) on July 29, 1967. The couple made their home together in the Vermontville, area where they raised their family together. The couple was married 44 years when Percilla passed away in the spring of 2012. When Montie returned to Vermontville, he began working at Motor Wheel in Lansing, for many years before he went to work at Flex-n-gate in Battle Creek, where he used his natural mechanical ability as a Tool and Die maker, retiring on June 6, 2008 after many years of service. Along with his wife and family Montie enjoyed camping and fishing during the summer at Deep Lake. In his younger years Montie and his wife enjoyed country western dancing. During the spring, Montie enjoyed steelhead fishing with his son; at the Allegan and Hamilton Dams this was always the favorite “fishing holes” for the father son duo. Fall was spent deer hunting behind the families Vermontville home. His Western roots where something Montie was always very proud of, and he especially enjoyed taking his daughter on a road trip to Oregon to visit his family, where Montie drove the entire distance. Montie loved to spend time with his “Karaoke” family, venturing to the Village Bar every Sunday for an afternoon of fellowship and singing. Montie is survived by his three daughters, Tina (Jerry) Rounds, Dorothy Jean (Jerry) Morris, (Ken Parker) Tonia (Bill) Tellas, four sons Bob (Paula) Thomason, Ray (K’Anne) Thomason, Montie (Paula) Morris Jr., Jerret (Susan) Morris; sister, Linda (Dick) Weaver; 14 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren, and his special friend and companion Marie Glassnor, and many extended family. He was preceded in death by his wife; son, Richard Thomason, and his brother, Jerry Morris. Funeral services will be held at the Daniels Funeral Home, Nashville, at 1 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 16, 2020, with Paul Temple officiating. The family will receive visitors on Monday, Nov. 16, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Daniels Funeral Home in Nashville. Interment will take place immediately following the funeral service at Hillside Cemetery - Kalamo, MI. with full military honors being provided by the United State Air Force and the American Legion Post - 45 Hastings.
