Ernest D. Halliwill


SEMPER FI!!!  For Lance Corporal Ernest D. Halliwill, of Gulliver, the war ended on November 10, 2020.   Ernie was born at home on August 28, 1951 to Lowell and Marlys (Brown) Halliwill of Vermontville; number six in a family of ten children. He graduated from Maple Valley High School, in Vermontville, with the class of 1972, and was drafted into service to our Country the same year.  After doing a tour of duty in Vietnam, he left the service in 1975, In August of 1976, he married Caroline Nash of Nashville, and they had four children; Nathan (Juneith) Halliwill of Phoenix, AZ, Erin Halliwill of Manistique, Timothy Halliwill of Manistique, and Joseph (Christine) Halliwill of Curtis.   Ernie was also the foster father to eight disabled children and 11 exchange students.   He was preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in law, Donald and Alice Nash; a brother, Kenneth; and a sister, Linda Pullen. Ernie is survived by his wife, Caroline; his four wonderful children; and eight blessed grandchildren.  Also surviving are sister, Mary Lehman of Nashville; brothers, Bob, Leroy, David, and Ed of Charlotte; Jim and Raymond of Nashville; and a sister-in-law, Cecelia Zinn of Gulliver.  The family wants to thank Northwoods Home Health and Hospice for their wonderful care of Ernie, nurses Gary and Emily, aides Mary, Wanda (who always brought treats for all our animals), Emelia, and Christina, and to Courtney who graciously put up with Caroline.   Cremation has taken place, and burial services will take place in the spring.  Memorial contributions in Ernie’s name may be directed to the Eva Burrell Humane Society, or to Northwoods Home Nursing and Hospice. Fausett Family Funeral Homes of Manistique is assisting the family with the arrangements.  Condolences may be left on their website at Fausettfh.com
