James McMillen


James “Lee” McMillen, age 79, of Nashville passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2020 at home with his family at his side. Lee was born in Detroit, on November 28, 1940, the son of the late Keith and Alice (Tiffany) McMillen. He spent his early childhood years in the Detroit area, until his family relocated to the Nashville area when he was in the 6th grade. Lee attended Nashville schools, graduating from W.K. Kellogg High School in 1959. He was the husband of Dorothy Anne McMillen. Lee and Dorothy were classmates while in school, and on July 23, 1960 the couple was married at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Hastings. The couple made their home together in the Nashville area where they raised their family together. Summer months were always a special time for the family, as soon as school was finished, they would load the camper, and travel wherever Lee’s job took them. These months were spent riding dirt bikes, playing cards and seeing the many sights along throughout their travels. Lee spent his entire career as a pipefitter and welder for the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union 190. Shortly after completing high school Lee went to work at the pipefitters union where he successfully completed his apprentice training and received his Journeyman’s card as a pipefitter and welder. During this time, he also served as an instructor for the Local 190 Apprenticeship Welding program for 11 years at Washtenaw Community College. Lee retired as a Job Superintendent with Nicona Construction at the age of 59. After retiring, Lee spent his spare time restoring vintage trucks and taking long rides with Dorothy on their Harley Davidson Motorcycle. The couple also enjoyed spending time “Cruisin” in the old truck, visiting local car shows and enjoying time with other vintage car/truck enthusiast. Monday nights was “Poker Night”, where Lee would catch up with friends, and enjoy time together. James is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy, of 60 years; four sons, Mark (Julie) McMillen, Tom (Nicole) McMillen, Bob (Dawn) McMillen, Brendon “Slim” McCullin, two sisters, Susan (Bob) Davis, Pat (Bill) Semrau, three brothers, Charlie (Janet) McMillen, Mick (Mary Jane) McMillen, Bruce (Emily) McMillen; sister-in-law, Marie McMillen; seven grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. Lee was preceded in death by his brother Conrad “Connie” McMillen. Graveside services will be held at the Lakeview Cemetery, Nashville, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2020, with Pastor Andy Shaver officiating.
