Joyce Ellen Cabose
Joyce Ellen (Becker-Brooks) Cabose of Davenport, FL passed away on Oct. 6, 2020 at the age of 84. Joyce was the daughter of the late Marion and Gertrude Becker.
She graduated from Hastings High School in 1955. On Dec. 12, 1969, Joyce married Alvin Cabose, and they celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2019, taking a cruise with all their children.
Joyce worked in the pharmacy at the University of Michigan and later worked at Culligan before becoming the best homemaker. She was a devout Christian and a member of St. Anne’s of Haines City, FL.
Joyce had a big heart and a giving soul. She always had great advice to share. She was the best cook, always hosting family parties and events. She loved golf, reading, cooking, researching genealogy and traveling – especially cruising. She traveled to Alaska, England, South America, Mexico, as well as the Eastern and Western Caribbean.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter Julie Anne Brooks, son Douglas Brooks, sisters Elaine McNut, Louise Aldrich and Annie McGuire, and several sisters- and brothers-in-law.
She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Alvin Cabose of Davenport, FL; sons, Michael (Connie) Brooks of Hastings, Kelvin (Mary) Cabose of Adrian, and daughter Beverly (Jerry) Kernohan of Lehigh Acres, FL; grandchildren, Megan (Jeremy Fowler) Cabose of Toledo, OH, Keri (Patrick Laker) Hilyard of Lehigh Acres, FL, Julia (Paul Karpf) Brooks of Maui, HI, Jayson (Kirstia) Brooks of Nashville, Kelvin (Brittany) Cabose of Brooklyn, and Shayna Brooks of Kalamazoo; sister, Marian Jacobs of Howell; brother-in-law, Tony (Linda) Cabose; sister-in-law, Flora (John) Boyce, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, Oct. 11, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Girrbach Funeral Home, 328 S Broadway, Hastings, MI 49058 with a Funeral Mass on Monday, Oct. 12 at 11 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Parish, 805 S. Jefferson Avenue, Hastings, MI, 49058. Funeral attendance will be limited to 75 people.
