Sandra Lee McCowan, age 76, of Kalamazoo, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, Sept. 27, 2020 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born August 9, 1944 in Battle Creek, the daughter of Raymond and Patricia (Koopman) Busman. Sandee married Roger D. McCowan, Sr. on September 29, 1962 in Battle Creek. Roger preceded her in death in 2014. She retired from Delton Kellogg Public Schools after 20 plus years of service. She was the past treasurer of the Weatherstone Village for three plus years. Sandee enjoyed playing cards, bowling, golfing, crocheting, canning, and going to the casino. Her family was her greatest joy. She loved attending her grandchildren’s sporting events. Her and Roger, Sr. enjoyed wintering in Florida and they enjoyed spending time in their cabin up North. Sandee had a big heart and will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her sons, Roger (Kathy) McCowan, Jr. and Brent (Dawn) McCowan; grandchildren, Reid, Justie, Kami, Turner, Tiffany, Courtney, Nick, and Lexi; nine great grandchildren; sisters, Vicki Allen and Patti (Kirk) Allan; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roger, Sr.; granddaughter, Brandi McCowan; and sister, Susie Cross. Visitation was held Friday, Oct. 2, 2020 at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service with a memorial luncheon that followed at Wild Mike’s Restaurant located at 22575 Bedford Rd North. A private burial will take place at a later date at East Hickory Cemetery in Barry Township. Memorial tributes may be made to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan or West Michigan Cancer Center.
