Janet Adams

Janet Adams, age 65, of Nashville passed away Monday, Sept. 28, 2020 at Spectrum Health Pennock Hospital, in Hastings. Janet was born in Battle Creek, on September 13, 1955, the daughter of the John and Margaret (Rowlador) Smith. She was raised in the the Woodland area and attended local schools graduating from Lakewood High School in 1974. Janet had a passion for learning, and while working as a paraprofessional at Maple Valley Schools, she was able to complete her undergraduate degree in history and social studies with an English minor at Olivet College. She received her teaching certificate shortly after graduation and fulfilled her dream of becoming an educator at Maple Valley Schools. Her love of education did not stop there; she returned to Olivet College completing her Master Degree. It was her passion for her students and her school that drove Janet to embrace the not just “teaching”, but going beyond the classroom to demonstrate an unwavering love for not only her students, but everyone in her community. In 2018, Janet made the decision to turn over her classroom, and retire from teaching to spend more time with her children and grandchildren. Janet was “all in” for her beloved Maple Valley Schools, assisting wherever and whenever she could to make sporting events and extracurricular events run smoothly. She was truly a community partner, and her compassionate caring nature could be seen in everything she did. Whether helping a family in need with groceries, taking her grandchildren to doctors appointments, or staying late to make sure the wrestling team’s snacks were prepared, Janet was always ready to lend a hand to anyone who needed her. Janet took great pride in NEVER paying “full price”! She was famous for her Goodwill shopping trips, her uncanny ability to seek out a garage sale or find that special “deal” in whatever store she was in. Janet enjoyed being home, simply spending time with her children, grandchildren and network of friends. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing and doing crafts and helping her children with day to day activities. Janet is survived by her father, John; daughter, Bethany (Randy) Slaght; son, Andrew Adams; two sisters, Jeanne (Mark) Shook, Joanne (Rick) King; three brothers, Dennis (Kathy) Smith, Gary (Debbie) Smith, David Smith; three grandchildren, Devin, Matthew, Dillon; sister-in-law, Lynda Smith, and hundreds of adopted “grand kids”, whom she has cared for thoughout the years.
