John Raymond Neff
John Raymond Neff, age 87, passed away on September 15, 2020.
John was born on May 5, 1933 in Sunfield, the son of Catherine and Leon Neff. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. John was married to Shirley Ann Miller, and they were married over 25 years until her death in 2010.
John was a lifetime member of the American Legion and served as the Finance Officer for 35 years. He also helped to open the new American Legion building and restaurant in Hastings. He served in the Army during the Korean War, reaching the rank of Corporal. John loved going to the casino and enjoyed coffee at Richie’s every day for years. He had a spunky personality and was loved by all.
John was preceded in death by his wife Shirley; his parents; his siblings, Leonora, Larry, Madeline and stepdaughter, Sheila.
He is survived by his sons, Randy (Shelly) Neff of Lake Odessa, John Neff, Jr. of Charlotte, Lincoln Miller of Athens, AL, Bob Miller of Hastings, John Miller of Hastings; daughter, Wendy Neff of Grand Ledge, sister, Dolores Neff; grandchildren, Kelly (John) Hickey of Augusta, Lincoln (Samantha) Miller, Jennifer (Tristen) Sobleskey, Lyndey Miller all of Battle Creek, Holly (Andrew) Chambers of Athens, AL, Wendy (Nisan) Mead, Roberta (Chuck) Harvath, Tiffany (Mike) Gregory, Samantha Miller all of Hastings; over 22 great-grandchildren and many friends including the wonderful staff at Thornapple Manor where he lived for many years until his passing.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at Fort Custer National Cemetery, 15501 Dickman Rd, Augusta, MI 49012 on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2020 at Noon.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the American Legion, Post 45 of Hastings, Michigan.
